“By Lanterns' Light ” by Chris Rayn, 2005
Lijiang in the south-western province of Yunnan. The last completely conserved old Chinese city, home to the Naxi minority, was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1997, but has been rebuilt in the meantime. Red Lanterns, traditionally promising good luck, illuminate a maze of old streets and lanes at night.
