“Heart of the Empire ” by Chris Rayn, 2005

Watch tower of the Forbidden City in the centre of Beijing. Throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties, the sovereigns of the Middle Kingdom have lived here with their household, until the last emperor Pu Yi was forced to step down at the beginning of the 20th century. For half a millennium, tradition and ceremonial have determined the course of life within these walls.
