Studies of Lightness employs abstracted botanical forms in their continually shifting threshold states to investigate impermanence, the instability of perception and the fragile relationship between individual and collective existence. Across a number of interconnected series, blossoms, flower fields and treescapes become allegories for the transient nature of all living things, where moments of emergence, transformation and dissolution reflect broader existential questions of identity and being. Lightness references both the perceptual and existential condition, as these works use the study of light and darkness in their rich art-historical tradition as a vehicle through which the deeper conceptual inquiries of this practice are being explored.
